A remarkable piece of early Cambridge glass, this antique No. 2631 “Marjorie” Nearcut squat cracker or biscuit jar was produced by the Cambridge Glass Company during the early 1900s.
Introduced around 1905, Marjorie is an elaborate early pressed-glass pattern designed to imitate the sparkle and complexity of expensive cut glass. The design features large circular hobstar medallions, looping ribbon-like elements, star and rosette motifs, geometric cutting effects, and deeply molded details covering the rounded body.
The pattern is also known among collectors as “Sweetheart.”
This is the squat cracker / biscuit jar form. The original matching cover is no longer present, but the open jar remains a spectacular display piece and can easily be repurposed as a vase, utensil holder, decorative vessel, or collector display.
Under blacklight, the glass also shows a green UV reaction, visible in the included photographs.
